The stallion sneered in return, but withheld himself.
You shall regret that statement, wench. he snarled.
Lazuli knew he was probably overreacting, and probably shouldn't do so much to drive away this fae now that she'd turned down his offer, but he couldn't help it. She deserved what she got. Before she could reply, he stamped a hoof and sprinted past her.

Arian's ears pinned back at Lazuli's snarled words, but otherwise kept her emotions from expressing themselves. Emotions were dangerous things that must be reined in. Even anger, which could be useful when threatened. So experience had taught the Thoroughbred in lessons she was not about to forget.
'We shall see.' she murmured in response, watching coolly as the blue stag departed swiftly.
Perhaps she could have let him down easier, but she had little experience in circumstances such as this.
A quiet huff of breath through flared nares were the only indication of emotion before she turned to Jubal. His eyes were wide with fear, but he had not been frightened too much; else he would have been pressed close to his dam's side, rather than still playing with Mizu. Arian knew her son had been oblivious to the conversation she had held with Lazuli, but the angry words of the stallion had evidently broke through his innocent oblivion.
'What we do now, Momma?'
'What we must.' Arian answered quietly, taking a slight step to nuzzle him reassuringly. She disliked showing emotion in front of a stranger, but she was not about to allow her son to go uncomforted when he was frightened.

Mizu stopped. "Wow. What was his problem?" Then she saw how scared Jubal was. One of her eyes twitched in aggitation. No one was mean to her friends! Not even her, or one of her other friends. Eye still twitching she suddenly sprinted after the leaving stag. She was pretty fast, not incredibly, but she was kinda fast. When she was close enough to the blue roan to talk, she shouted,"What's your problem?! Did you see how much you scared my friend?! Do you have a heart?!" This was ne of those moments where Mizu changed from the 'happy-go-lucky', childish Mizu that you usually saw, into the parental, concerned, and/or ticked off Mizu.

Mother and son watched in surprise as Mizu suddenly took off after the blue stag. The fierce defense of her son's feelings by the other mare surprised Arian, but also warmed her heart. She had gotten used to looking out for Jubal on her own; it was nice to find that others were willing to care for him.
Then Arian realized that Mizu could possibly be placing herself in a dangerous position. The Thoroughbred followed at a slightly slower pace, ready to rip into the stud should he threaten Jubal's protective friend. Her son moved at her side, pressed close in fear after the show of anger he'd seen.

The blue halted sharply and turned to the direction of the hoof-falls he sensed following him.
You'd best return to your friends, dearie. You'll be safer there. My apologies for frightening the child.
Without another word, he took a jutting step and then picked up a canter quickly and raced out of sight.

Mizu slid to a stop, dust lifting around her. She didn't like him, now. He was mean. Turning she trotted back to Jubal,"Hey. Sorry I ran away. I guess I was just angry." Mizu was taking the steps to becoming normal. However, there were a lot of steps, and she wouldn't change too much.

Arian halted near Mizu. A very small smile touched her lips, the slightest concession to emotion that the Thoroughbred would make, even for one who had been willing to defend her son. 'I thank you for your concern for Jubal.' she said, her tone tinged with gratitude. Glancing in the direction of the departed stallion, she added, 'I do not blame you at all for being angry.'
'What'll happen t'us now, Momma?' Jubal questioned, tilting his small head upward to look at his dam.
The chestnut mare was silent for a time, thinking over their options. She knew that her cold personality had likely just driven off the only chance at being accepted into a herd. What were they going to do now? Inspiration struck with a suddenness that surprised her.
'We'll claim a terra of our own.' she stated simply. Arian hesitated only a bare instant before turning to Mizu. 'Would you like to come with us?'

"Most definitely! I don't have a home, myself. I just....wander," Mizu replied, grinning and shrugging. Today was becoming 'normal day' for Mizu.

'We would be happy to have you join us in our new home.' Arian said, her ordinarily cool tone warming a few degrees than was normal.
'Where we gonna live, Momma?' Jubal questioned, tilting his head to gaze up questioningly at his dam.
Arian frowned. She hadn't thought of that. Where should they settle down? Where would be best for a Light mare accompanied by a foal, joined by another mare. 'I do not know.' the Thoroughbred admitted. 'But I am sure we shall think of something.'

"Yep! We'll find a place!" Mizu said, heroically. She grinned, "Besides, it'll be fun! Like a game, I guess. But, it's important. So, it's an important game!" Mizu's grin got bigger, so it almost stretched from ear to ear.

'Indeed.' Arian agreed with a nod. 'A very important game.'
'How does I play?' Jubal questioned, wanting to take part in this new game.
Arian hesitated, uncertain how to answer. Was it possible that her young son would be able to help in choosing a new home for the three of them?

"I know! We all look at a place that we might have a home in, then we all judge it! The one we all approve is the winner!" Mizu answered, happily grinning.

Jubal grinned at the suggestion, nodding enthusiastically.
Arian suppressed a quiet laugh at the sight and answered, 'I suppose that would be a logical method. Shall we begin our search?'

"Yes, let's!" Mizu exclaimed, happily trotting away. She stopped and turned for a second, "You coming?" she asked, before trotting, again.
OhOhSee;; Woo! 100th post! Woo!

Another slight smile quirked Arian's lips at the other mare's enthusiasm. 'Lead on.' she responded, moving into a smooth gait to follow Mizu. Jubal followed at her side, though he alternated occasionally by moving to trot alongside Mizu. His wide grin showed abundantly how much he was enjoying himself now.
