Late post. Sorry for the cruddy quality. Really could do better, but oh well.
Wind whispers Sanyue
Find the Light
Feminine power
Tack down five
Born of the Appaloosa
14 hands to the sky
The shadows of a darkening night ring my front, leading along my back to where spots of silver and gold speck my hind.
My mane grows long, dratted with spots and spails of white. Dot my cheek bone with a splash of gold.
Make me thunderous as a storm, as soft as the spring.
Let the rains hum Chepi
Born of the Light
Courage of Male
Born past two months
Cry Appaloosa
Paint me black
Stand me at 8 hands
Spot me white
Spark me strong with questions
Two forms stood alone in the wood, one quite a bit smaller than the first. Leaning for support upon his mother, a small colt suckled at the warm milk coming from her underside. A hazy mist had surrounded the pair ad now threatened to engulf them completely, wave like surges of strong air blasting the small horse with an inner chill that seemed to cling to his still fluffy coat.
A howl sounded off in the distance, followed by the perking of alert ears. Though it was far away, the hint of wolf meant danger to the highest level. A few more resounding calls chimed in the answer the first, and soon a chorus of sounds filled the mountains and small hills for miles around.
This, of course, was not welcomed to the mare, who looked nervously around. She knew the distance between those monsters and her colt was many, yet it still gave her a great deal of trouble.
“Chepi,” she neighed calmly as the small horse tilted his head, lapping up the milk still dribbling from her underside with a pleased look. His eyes seemed to be as liquid ice, flaming with some hidden desire.
He’ll be a wild one, she thought to herself, shaking her head with a small smile.
“Come now, darling, we must find comfort within the forest. A clearing like this is too exposed,” preventing further questions with a flip of her tail, Sanyue took off at a light trot, careful not to get so far ahead. The heat of the small body flanking hers was all she needed.
Clover and grass spotted another clearing, quite further into the forest. A thick canopy was temporarily broken by a soft wind, revealing the stars above. Sanyue slowly lowered her body down, flicking an ear at her tired colt.
“come closer and sleep,” she commanded softly.
The small horse nuzzled his way up to her hind flank, laying his little head down to sleep.
“Goodnight, Mama,” he said drowsily as his small blue eyes closed, shutting out the night and his sounds, filling the colts dreams with mystery and adventure. A place he had dreamed of many times before
The mare looked down upon the sleeping colt and smiled for the peace which seemed to the clearing with a sort of calmness, and this too helped the mother both through the long summer night, shivering I fear. Danger only one step behind and never far between.
