Foal due: July 11
Irezu's belly was expanding over time, and soon she would have a child at her heels. Lazuli patiently awaited the day, growing closer to Irezu. He was by her side every moment of the day.
Lazuli woke up one morning and nudged Irezu gently.
Do you want to come with me to the pond?
His voice was soft, almost a whisper. He glanced quickly at her swollen belly. She still wasn't quite due, but the foal could come at any time. The small pond was a little walk, but there were various clumps of tall shade trees along the way. That way, even though it was close to noon, she wouldn't get too hot.

Irezu's eyes slowly fluttered open at Lazuli's gentle nudge. With each passing day, as the foal within her grew, sleep became more of a luxury. The various discomforts that any expectant mare must endure kept her from sleeping deeply and she came to treasure the times when she could sleep deeply. The Arab never complained though, enduring serenely, looking forward to the day when the little one within her would be born.
'It would be a pleasure that I would not wish to miss.' Irezu responded softly, nosing Lazuli affectionately. Slowly, with far less grace than she had once been capable of, the chestnut got to her feet. The effort in and of itself was taxing, and she knew that the time was drawing very close to when she would be a mother.

[due! time to head off to the birthing grounds. I will be away until the 23rd]
Lazuli did what he could to allow Irezu as much time to rest as possible. The land was quiet, so there was no business to handle. Soon the day drew nigh. He nudged her shoulder affectionately.
Your day is upon us. Why don't you stay a week with your foal. There is nothing amiss here as I know, and Tenga and I will manage. You need this time to yourself. Besides, it is quite peaceful there.

((okiedokie; thanks for the warning!))
Irezu was quiet for a time, then nosed Lazuli with gentle affection. 'I will miss you.' she stated softly. Carefully, the Arab slowly got to her feet. An unexpected brisk kick from her unborn foal brought a wince to the mare, but she smiled at Lazuli. 'The little one is eager to be out to see the world.' she commented.
Once on her feet, she stood still for a moment to rest. Once her strength had been replenished, she nuzzled Lazuli one last time. 'I will go for a week as you say, but I will look forward to the day that I return home.'
