Corinne was a little nervous about the situation. Still, she felt that she ought to do something to alleviate the situation. After all, if things worked out she would be spending the rest of her life here. Best to be on good terms with other herd members, most especially the Lady.
'She certainly is very bold.' the young Thoroughbred commented quietly. She hesitated, then questioned, 'Is she your first?'
Corinne could remember a half-sister of in the herd of her birth who had been very nervous and high-strung with her firstborn, though much calmer and more relaxed with subsequent foals.

Bella did not look up, but kept her gaze upon Esperanza. "Yes, a little too bold for her own good. Someday, I just know it, that boldness will take her someplace bad or get her into major trouble. Yet...I guess it could be a good thing. Sometimes..." Her gaze snapped up at the Thoroughbred. "Though it's not much of your business, yes. She is my first foal. Though there will be more to deal with later on."
It was a surprise, how she was speaking of Lacrymosa and hers future. How there would be more foals, even though that was quite a common thing, as known, in herds. She felt slightly comforted. Bella had not really had the chance to speak to another mare about what was going on in her life. She knew the common mares did that every day. But she had just been letting it build up; spending all of her time with Lacrymosa.

Hoping her own boldness would not get her into deeper trouble than she was currently in, Corinne cautiously added, 'My mother used to say that boldness in an heir is a very good sign.'
The young Thoroughbred dropped her head, lipping at the grass and pretending to graze. She hoped her words would not offend Bella. Corinne did not want to offend the Lady. If she did anger the Lady, it was likely she would end up searching for her previous destination after all. It upset her to even think of having to leave this place, so she forcefully pushed that thought away.
After a few moments, she dared to glance hesitantly upward through long lashes to gauge how Bella was reacting to what she had said.

The Arabian stared at Corrine with slightly anger in her eyes, but she looked away and calmed herself. She did not want to fight in front of her young filly. The mare stamped a hoof and gazed down at Esperanza. "Why don't you go play in the shallow part of the ocean," she said it more as a statement than a question.
Bella swished her tail angrily at a fly. Stupid creatures. They were only pests during the warm seasons. Atleast they went away when it got cold. In her head she was mulling over what the Thoroughbred mare had said to her. After a long and awkward pause she spoke,"I suppose it is a good thing. But it can be quite the bad thing, mind you. Boldness needs calamity to balance it out. I happen to have both, though I will admit that is not all the time."
The Arab paused for a moment. "But I have learned to control myself when it comes to being bold or daring. My filly has yet to see that both are necessary in life." Bella swished her tail once more, whacking a fly dead. Stupid horse flies! They were everywhere this year; even at the darned beach!

Corinne waited until Bella seemed to have calmed herself, then raised her head cautiously. The young mare watched as the filly left, then returned her attention to the Lady. A fly landed on her pelt, but her attention was absorbed in worry that she did not notice until a stinging sensation brought her long flame-hued tail into action.
The sorrel femme fought the urge to fidget nervously as the awkward silence seemed to stretch on interminably. She feared that her brash words would now mean her ejection from the herd. It took a great deal of effort not to beg forgiveness for her foolishness. Corinne was more relieved than words could express when Bella spoke in such a manner that the young Thoroughbred knew she was not yet being kicked out.
Corinne nodded gravely in agreement. 'It is good to learn control of one's boldness before it is as useful as it can be.' She shifted, warding off flies with her swishing tail. Hesitating a moment, she cautiously added, 'She seems very clever. I'm sure she'll learn that lesson soon.'

Bella looked down at her hooves, then back at Corinne. The mare seemed a little intense at the moment. But what for? Oh, why did it matter right now? Sometimes Bella could just go completely off topic and off track. It even annoyed herself! God, now she wondered how much it annoyed the other horses.
Bella swished her tail calmly as if nothing were going through her mind. "I do hope she does. Just..I hope she doesn't have to learn the hard way. I did, and I don't want to put my Esperanza through the same thing. But...sometimes you do have to learn the hard way, I suppose."
The Lady gazed at Corinne politely through long lashes, still studying her. She seemed like a good mare. And she could be useful in the battle. That might sound harsh, but it was true. They needed as many horses as possible if they wanted to win the battle. The Lights were a strong force. And in need of much dicipline if peace were to be restored.

Corinne forced her tensed figure to relax. So far nothing terrible had happened, and it was likely that nothing would. There was no point in worrying quite yet. The young Thoroughbred gave an inward snort. She wasn't quite convincing herself.
The sorrel listened quietly as Bella spoke, before responding. 'I have no experience with such matters, but I suppose all mothers must feel that way about their little ones.' She grinned wryly. 'The way my dam speaks of how I was when I was a little filly, I'm surprised she survived my foalhood. Apparently I was quite a hassle.'
Corinne noted that Bella was studying her still and did her best not to fidget under the Lady's intense gaze. She disliked being stared at, but did not dare protest for fear of getting chased away.

"Many mares like to exaggerate about that once their foals are older." The Arab mare laughed, her giant head swinging slightly side to side. "I suppose I'll be the first, however, to admit that I know I'll be doing that when Esperanza grows up. I just know it, with the way I am. Definately."
Bella looked at her forehooves instead of at Corinne. She could tell she hated being stared at. Though she was the same way, she did not know why she put other horses under the same pressure. Maybe it was just a...a 'power' thing or something. Hmm...Bella knew how much Corinne wanted to tell her to stop staring, but she did not say anything. The Arab knew it was true, though. Corinne seemed very, very nervous under her gaze.

Corinne smiled. 'At least you are willing to admit you will be that way.' she responded with a light laugh. 'My mother will never admit that she is exaggerating.'
The young Thoroughbred was relieved when Bella stopped studying her. She swished her tail and breathed a deep but quiet breath. Slowly, she began to relax. So far, nothing had gone wrong. The Lady seemed less angry than she had before. Maybe in time they could be friends.
As silence drew on, Corinne cast about for a topic of conversation. Seizing upon one, she asked, 'How long have you lived here?'

Bella nodded. "I am willing to admit to many things. Sometimes it's bad, though. Sometimes I will take the blame for another horse, and then I am punished terribly in the long run or something like that..." The Arab sighed, closing her eyes tightly. She stamped a hoof in her frustration.
Then she realized Corinne was probably giving her an odd look for her sudden outburst, so she calmed her nerves and swished her tail peacefully. The Thoroughbred was a good mare. A good listener and converser. It seemed they were coming along well already. They'd probably even be friends soon. But Corinne would be lucky if that happened. Bella seldom allowed friendship into her life. Only love, and only familia love. Then again...friendship hadn't had the time to enter her life and be important.
The Arab looked up sharply at Corinne's question. "Oh, I have lived here all my life, my dear! This has always been my home. These hills and the beach. All of it. Ever since I was born I have splashed in the waves and galloped across the plains. It is a wonderful place. And all the more exciting when you get special privilages from being the daughter of a high ranking stallion and mare." Bella smiled. She knew she was bragging, and she hated doing that. But sometimes she just couldn't help herself.
"So how about you? Where are you from, exactly?"

Corinne wasn't entirely certain how she ought to respond to Bella's comment on taking blame for other horses. She decided the best policy on this occassion would be to say nothing at all. That way she would not get herself into serious trouble.
An odd urge to do something about the Lady's frustration caught Corinne by surprise. She'd always had that with her younger siblings in her old herd, but never for a contemporary, except for her close friends. Interesting. Did that mean that she was on the path to accepting Bella as a close friend? Would the chestnut Arab reciprocate in kind? The young Thoroughbred shrugged mentally. Only time would tell.
Corinne smiled. 'You are very lucky to have lived here all your life.' she responded. 'This place is so beautiful.'
The sorrel was silent a moment as her own origin was questioned. 'I was born in a herd known as the Wildfire Plains herd. My sire and dam were ordinary herd members, but I did have some special privileges because my closest friend was the daughter of the King and Queen. The young mare smiled at the thought of Shadowstar. They'd had wonderful times together as foals. But that time was over now, and Corinne was off on her own now. Time to make new friends. 'It was a beautiful place, but we didn't have a beach, and I think this place is much more beautiful.'
